Tokyo – June 11, 2020 – Toppan Printing (Toppan) (TSE:7911), a global leader in communication, security, packaging, décor materials, and electronics solutions, has launched a new solution for the Japanese market to enable online tours of such facilities as factories, showrooms, museums, and art galleries.
In order to prevent the spread of novel coronavirus infection, many facilities have been temporarily closed or are having to devise ways in which they can provide tours while maintaining social distancing. Toppan’s solution combines existing video and photographs with newly produced content and online conferencing systems to enable users to see the facilities and communicate with the people that run them in real time.
An advantage of an online tour is the ability to present areas of facilities that are not usually open to visitors. Tours can fuse existing or new video footage with live feeds to provide users with an enhanced sense of immersion. Toppan has also used its expertise to devise ways to communicate what visitors might hear or smell at actual locations. Webinar functions of online conferencing systems can be used to stream video content, and users can engage with the people operating facilities by using chat tools. Toppan has been using a similar system to provide online tours of its tourism business-related NIPPON GALLERY TABIDO MARUNOUCHI showroom and to present company facilities to employees who have joined the company in the last few months.
“Toppan has a long track record in space and communication design for factory tours, museums and all kinds of events. We have been able to combine that with our video production capabilities to create a solution that enables facilities to overcome the obstacles that they currently face to connect with users online and showcase their features in a way that is interactive and easy to understand,” said Kazuhiro Naito, general manager of Experience Design in Toppan’s Marketing business. “Combined with our event and promotion-related solutions, this will allow customers to continue to engage with their target markets and stakeholders in a meaningful way.”
