Consistent ESG performance recognized with selection every year since index’s launch in 2012

Tokyo – June 22, 2020 – Toppan Printing (Toppan) (TSE:7911), a global leader in communication, security, packaging, décor materials, and electronics solutions, has been included in the 2020 Sompo Sustainability Index, marking consecutive selection for nine years since the index was launched by Sompo Asset Management in 2012.

The Sompo Sustainability Index is composed of around 300 companies demonstrating outstanding performance in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) dimensions. The index informs Sompo Asset Management’s long-term, buy and hold investment-focused products, which are used by a large number of pension funds and institutional investors. The products aim to help investors build their asset portfolios through assessment of enterprise value from a long-term perspective that goes beyond financial indicators to identify and take into account such factors as management quality and latent risks.

Toppan’s repeated selection to the index is based on recognition of its overall ESG performance, leading to long-term enterprise value. It adds to inclusion in a number of the world’s leading socially responsible investing indexes, including the DJSI World Index and Asia Pacific Index, the MSCI ESG Leaders Indexes, and the FTSE4Good Index.

“We are very pleased that our ESG initiatives have continued to be recognized by Sompo Asset Management,” said Fumie Ikeda, General Manager of Sustainability Promotion at Toppan. “We engage in a wide range of sustainability-related activities and incorporate the principles of the UN Global Compact, ISO 26000, and the Sustainable Development Goals into our approach to providing solutions to society as a whole. This commitment is expressed further by the TOPPAN SDGs STATEMENT published last year and we will continue to bolster our efforts to shape a sustainable society and generate value for all stakeholders.”
