東京藝術大学大学院美術研究科修了。1982年第3回日本グラフィック展大賞、1983年第30回ADC賞最高賞、1986年シドニー・ビエンナーレ、1995年ヴェネチア・ビエンナーレ出品。1999年毎日デザイン賞グランプリ、2015年文化庁芸術選奨芸術振興部門文部科学大臣賞受賞。2007年より東京藝術大学教授。2022年4月より東京藝術大学学長に就任。他の主な要職として、岐阜県美術館館長、熊本市現代美術館館長、日本サッカー協会社会貢献委員長を務める。

Completed the Graduate School of Fine Arts, Tokyo University of the Arts. Won the grand prize at the 3rd Nippon Graphic Exhibition in 1982, top prize at the 30th Tokyo ADC Award in 1983, and exhibited at the Sydney Biennale in 1986 and the Venice Biennale in 1995. Won the grand prix at the Mainichi Design Awards in 1999 and received the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Award at Art Promotion Division of Japan's Art Encouragement Prize in 2015. He has been a professor at Tokyo University of the Arts since 2007, served as the president since April 2022. Other major posts include the director of the Museum of Art, Gifu, and the Contemporary Art Museum Kumamoto, as well as the chairperson of the Japan Football Association Social Contribution Committee.

2011年デザインスタジオSWIMMINGを設立。グラフィックデザインの姿勢を基軸に、印刷物/映像/展覧会など視覚伝達を中心とした領域でのデザインの活動に取り組んでいる。主な仕事に「デザインあ 解散！／集合！」「HOMME PLISSÉ ISSEY MIYAKE インビテーション」「紙工視点」など。主な受賞歴にJAGDA新人賞、亀倉雄策賞、東京TDC賞など。

Established his own design studio SWIMMING in 2011. Engages in various design activities, based on graphic design method, in the fields of visual communication such as printing, video, and exhibitions. Representative works include “Design-Ah Kaisan! /Shugo!,” “HOMME PLISSÉ ISSEY MIYAKE Invitation,” and “SHIKOU SHITEN,” among others. Major awards received include the JAGDA New Designer Award, Yusaku Kamekura Design Award, and TDC Prize.

編集プロダクション、出版社を経て、2005年にグラフィック社入社。2007年「デザインのひきだし」を創刊する。デザイン・印刷・紙関連書籍、また「柚木沙弥郎のことば」、画集「ヒグチユウコ画集　CIRCUS」、画集「宇野亞喜良Kaleidoscope」、「バターの本」など、紙の本にこだわった書籍を企画・編集している。

After working in an editing production and a publisher, joined Graphic-sha Publishing in 2005. Launched the “DESIGN NO HIKIDASHI” magazine in 2007. Carries out planning and editing publications about design, printing, and paper, in addition, books with deep commitment to paper book media such as “Yunoki Samiro No Kotoba,” “Higuchi Yuko Art collection Book: CIRCUS,” “Uno Akira Art Book: Kaleidoscope,” and “The Book of Butter.”

映画のグラフィックを中心に、展覧会広報物、ブックデザインなどを手がける。最近の主な仕事に、映画「パターソン」「万引き家族」「ミッドサマー」「ちょっと思い出しただけ」「エブリシング・エブリウェア・オール・アット・ワンス」「アフターサン」「Pearl パール」、展覧会「谷川俊太郎展」「ムーミン展」「ヨシタケシンスケ展かもしれない」、書籍「君のクイズ／小川 哲」「はーばーらいと／吉本ばなな」「深く、しっかり息をして ／川上未映子」など。

Involved in graphics for movie advertising, as well as exhibition promotion materials and book design. Main projects in recent years include “PATERSON,” “Shoplifters,” “Midsommar,” “Just Remembering,” “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” “aftersun,” and “Pearl” for films, “TANIGAWA Shuntaro,” “Moomin, THE ART and THE STORY,”　and “It might be Shinsuke Yoshitake's exhibition” for exhibitions, “YOUR OWN QUIZ” by Ogawa Tetsu, “Harborlight” by Yoshimoto Banana, and “Breathe slow, Breathe Deep” by Kawakami Mieko for Books.

京都工芸繊維大学大学院デザイン科学専攻修了後、2013年凸版印刷株式会社入社。ビジネストランスフォーメーションセンター エクスペリエンスデザイン本部在籍。入社以来、様々な企業／事業／団体／学校などのブランド戦略策定やブランドデザインに従事。ヤングスパイクス2018 インテグレーテッド部門日本代表、ヤングロータス2019国内予選ファイナリスト、などを受賞

Joined TOPPAN INC. in 2013 after completing the Master’s Program of Design, Kyoto Institute of Technology. Currently belongs to the Experience Design Division in Business Transformation Center. Has engaged in brand strategy formulation and brand design for various companies, businesses, groups, schools, and other organizations since joining TOPPAN. Received recognition such as being selected as a finalist in the domestic preliminary for the Young Lotus Workshop 2019 and selected as the Japanese representative for the Young Spikes Integrated Competition 2018.
