Tokyo – September 2, 2022 –Toppan (TYO: 7911), a global leader in communication, security, packaging, décor materials, and electronics solutions, will participate for the first time in Fine Food Australia 2022, a leading trade event for the food industry, held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre from September 5 through 8. Toppan will showcase a wide range of the latest sustainable packaging solutions, including its market-leading transparent barrier film, GL BARRIER, for Australian food producers and other end users.

Fine Food Australia is Australia’s largest food-related fair. Held twice a year, in Sydney and Melbourne, it showcases food, beverages, vending machines, bakery equipment and ingredients, health foods, dairy products, packaging, and more. In 2019 more than 1,000 companies participated, with the number of visitors exceeding 25,000.

In May 2021 Toppan published its Medium Term Plan for the period April 2021 to March 2023, the key concept of which is Digital & Sustainable Transformation. Expansion of the global packaging business is set out as one of the priorities in the plan, and Toppan is accelerating its efforts to cater to demand for sustainable solutions and establish networks facilitating local production for local consumption.

Toppan has advanced its packaging business in Asia, including Indonesia, Thailand, and China, and bolstered its GL BARRIER manufacturing and supply capability for European and North American markets by opening the Toppan USA plant in Griffin, Georgia, in April 2016. The company is further strengthening its global production and sales operations with an eye on North America, Europe, Latin America, and Asia. Toppan acquired InterFlex Group, a packaging manufacturer with locations in the United States and United Kingdom, last year and has also recently made leading Indian film manufacturer Max Speciality Films and Thai packaging company Majend Makcs consolidated subsidiaries.

By participating in Fine Food Australia, Toppan will raise the profile of its globally expanding converting business and GL BARRIER products in Australia, a leading market in the Asia and Oceania region, and drive further business growth to meet worldwide demand for sustainable packaging, which is underpinned by increasing environmental consciousness.

Solutions on show

・GL BARRIER and related barrier packaging
GL BARRIER is Toppan’s proprietary range of transparent barrier films. With world-class barrier performance enabled by unique vapor deposition and coating technologies and an extensive lineup for diverse applications, GL BARRIER is a leading brand recognized in markets throughout the world, including Japan, Europe, the Americas, and Asia.
At Fine Food Australia, Toppan will present its film products as well as barrier packaging in the form of microwavable packaging and paper-based composite containers.

・Mono-material barrier packaging
As a new addition to the GL BARRIER lineup, Toppan has developed packaging that delivers excellent performance in terms of barrier properties and other characteristics while employing mono-material compositions, such as polypropylene (PP) or polyethylene (PE), rather than laminating multiple materials to fulfill different roles. The superior suitability for recycling of these packaging materials has been recognized by multiple European recyclability assessment bodies.
